Walk to School Week
Next week, we are encouraging our children to participate in the Walk to School Week. We are teaching our children that walking to school is healthier, more enjoyable and better for the environment. If a child lives too far away to walk, it is suggested that you park a few streets away and walk some of the journey. You could ‘Park and Stride’. The Pear Tree pub allows us to park in their car park for morning and afternoon school drop offs. This enables a safe place to park and keep the roads close to school clear. We will be asking the children to fill in a class chart, so we can find out which class has the most daily walkers! At the end of the week there will be a prize and certificate for the class who has walked the most!
Children can also come to school on bicycles or scooters, just as long as you try to leave your car at home – this also helps us to keep Crossdale Drive a safe place to be! Bicycles and scooters may be left in the bicycle and scooter racks.
On the Tuesday of Walk to School Week, 18th May, we will be celebrating ‘Happy Shoesday’! We are inviting the children to wear the shoes that make them their happiest on their walk to school and donate a voluntary £1.
Children (and staff!) can wear shiny shoes, trainers, wellies, slippers or get creative and change the laces, add beads/glitter, wings or stickers.
The money collected will be donated to the charity ‘Living Streets’. This charity works with schools, disability groups, local communities and campaigns to make UK streets safer for everyone. (www.livingstreets.org.uk/walktoschool).
Thank you so much for your support. I hope the weather is kind and you all have a wonderful walking week.
