  • COVID SYMPTOMS

    Published 06/11/20

As we enter a new period of National Lockdown, it's worth reminding ourselves of the symptoms of covid-19.

The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

    • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
    • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
    • loss of change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you have noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

Check if you have coronavirus symptoms and seek medical advice at the following website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/

See  flowchart below (covid advice for parents)  for help deciding whether your child should be in school

If you have symptoms of coronavirus – STAY AT HOME and follow the stay at home guidance: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance

Check how long you should self-isolate for herehttps://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/how-long-to-self-isolate/

If you have symptoms of coronavirus you should arrange to be tested. A test can be arranged here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-an-antigen-test-to-check-if-you- have-coronavirus/

IF AT ANY POINT YOUR CHILD HAS RECEIVED A POSITIVE TEST FOR COVID-19, PLEASE CALL SCHOOL AT THE END OF THE PERIOD OF SELF-ISOLATION BEFORE THEY RETURN TO SCHOOL

  • CONFIRMED CASE OF COVID-19 AT CROSSDALE

    Published 20/10/20

    Dear Parents,

We have been made aware today that 3 members of our school community have tested positive for COVID 19.

The families of children who have been in close contact with the individuals who have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

The school will open as normal on the 2nd November and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19

If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.

All other household members who remain well, must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. This includes anyone in your ‘Support Bubble’.

Further information is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.

Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home.

If you require help with buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, or walking a dog, you should ask friends or family. Alternatively, you can order your shopping online and medication by phone or online.

Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

If you are able, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period.

    Symptoms

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

    • a new continuous cough
    • a high temperature
    • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

If your child does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.

    How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19

    Do

    • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
    • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
    • wash your hands as soon as you get home
    • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
    • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

  • DON'T STRUGGLE ALONE – THE COMMUNITY CAN HELP

    Published 13/10/20

Since the early days of the Coronavirus lockdown, we, at Keyworth Community Projects have been helping those within our community in a variety of ways. This has truly helped to bring our community together in a stronger and more cohesive way.

Now, with the end of furlough in sight, redundancies increasing, and local groups/bubble groups being asked to isolate we understand two key things. The future for some is scarily uncertain and that our being here with help and support is as important as ever before.

We have secured funds to help families financially with Co-op vouchers, to spend as you wish in store on food and household products. We can also provide information of organisations that will help you put more permanent plans in place, whether that be with applying for benefits or looking for new work.

Please get in touch, your details will not be passed on and any items will be delivered as discreetly as possible.

Just email us and we will get back to you.

    Kind regards

  • Cycling to School - ROAD SAFETY

    Published 12/10/20

We are delighted that more families are choosing to cycle to school. Reducing traffic on the roads and encouraging our children to exercise is something we are keen to support.

However, we have noticed some children cycling in a way that might put them, and others, at risk of injury:

    · Cycling on the wrong side of the road

    · NOT wearing a helmet

    · Cycling 'no-hands' without holding the handlebars

We are increasingly worried that a child could be seriously hurt. If your child cycles to school, please reassure yourself that he / she is competent at cycling on roads and follows basic road safety measures.

Please note, The Child Safety (Cycle Helmets) Bill 2020 is currently working its way through Parliament which will require, by law, children under the age of 16 to wear a safety helmet when riding a bicycle on a public highway.

  • FACE COVERINGS FOR PARENTS ON THE SCHOOL SITE

    Published 07/10/20

We want to keep our school open!

You will be aware that many local schools have had to close to all, or some pupils in recent weeks due to coronavirus. Although this has not been the case for our school, it might only be a matter of time before we also feel the impact.

When reviewing our measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, one major concern has been the number of adults that gather and mix when they drop off or collect their children. Even with our staggered start and end to the day, these times inevitably increase the risk of coronavirus being spread amongst our school community.

As such, and in consultation with the chair of our governing body, we are asking all parents to wear a face covering when they come onto the school site to drop off or collect their children. This will come into effect from 12th October, although we hope many parents elect to wear a covering immediately.

Advice from the DfE makes it clear that school leaders have the discretion to ask visitors and parents to wear face coverings to support existing hygiene measures and system of controls. Given the dramatic rise in cases in Nottinghamshire, this seems like a proportionate and sensible measure that will help keep our school open. Please contact us if you are medically exempt from wearing face coverings.

  • Ventilation / Temperature

    Published 29/09/20

We have been approached by some parents about the temperature in school at the moment, with some expressing concerns that children are cold in class.

When planning to open to all pupils earlier this month, the guidance we were given to reduce the likelihood of virus transmission requires that we ensure there is good ventilation in school:

    • Department for Education: Once the school is in operation, it is important to ensure good ventilation and maximising this wherever possible, for example, opening windows and propping open doors.
    • Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) risk assessments for schools: When working inside, pupils should be in groups, in well ventilated areas (e.g. with windows / outside doors open)
    • Health and Safety Executive: Good ventilation can help reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus […] Where possible, consider ways to maintain and increase the supply of fresh air, for example, by opening windows and doors (unless fire doors).

This advice for schools remains in place today and the Health and Safety Executive are currently contacting schools to check all advice and measures suggested to reduce the spread of coronavirus are being effectively and consistently employed.

As the temperature drops, all schools will have to find ways to ensure classrooms are well ventilated, but also at a comfortable temperature that allows children to work and learn effectively. Our new heating system should be fully commissioned and handed over in the very near future, which may help, and we have contacted the H&S team at NCC for further guidance.

In the meantime, please keep an eye on the weather and ensure your child has an extra layer or two on chilly days. We are following this up as a matter of urgency and will update you asap.

Please contact us if you have any questions.
