KEY MESSAGES FOR SPRING 2
Homework and key messages for the half-term Spring 2:
It is lovely to have the children back after half-term. We enjoyed looking at each other’s ‘show and tell’ items as well as discussing the awesome activities and places lots of you did and visited.
Well done for all of the super topic homework that came in during the last half-term. This half-term our topic homework links to our current science topic about animals and their life cycles as well as different kinds of habitats and other living things. You will find a copy of this attached to this blog and your child has also been handed a physical copy too. This homework can be returned via weekly through ‘show and tell’ sessions on Monday afternoons, therefore, please send your child in with any evidence of completed homework or email it to the school office for the rest of the class to look at if this is easier - the deadline for this is the end of the half-term. This topic is ongoing from last half-term but we shall also begin ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ towards the end of Spring 2.
This half-term we have book week (including a dress up day for world book day) and science week – lots of lovely activities to help children engage in those subjects during these special weeks. The travelling book fair will be in school from 23rd February and with us until 1st March. You will be able to pop into school before and after school to choose books should you wish to. School benefits from these purchases and we very much appreciate being able to use any commission towards new books for our classrooms. Don’t forget about the various competitions running in line with each of these weeks (details were shared before half-term and are also attached below) and also the £1 book token that will be with you shortly. As we lead up to Easter, you can look forward to another Owl Class assembly. The children will be learning Easter songs in our singing assemblies starting this Wednesday so hopefully they will sing you those at home, too!
Spellings
Please note all of the weekly spellings are handed out physically to your children and a termly overview can also be found in your child’s ‘Reading Roots’ record book. We are currently on the last week of 2A - Common Exception Words and shall being 2B w.b. 27.02.23. Please continue to support your child in practising their weekly spellings. I have really enjoyed seeing and hearing all about the creative ways you have been teaching your children to learn their spellings. I have attached a copy of this half-terms spellings for your information as well.
Doodle
Keep up with the Doodle Maths! I love to see many children’s names from Owl Class on the school’s leader board and how many challenges you have set yourself to complete. I have set some more weekly assignments linking to both our current learning and previous topics (to help keep it fresh!)
Library Visit
As a reminder, Year 2 are visiting Keyworth Library this week (23.02.23) in the morning. I have had lots of library cards handed to me already – well done! If you haven’t done so already, please send your child in with their library before Thursday if they would like to borrow a book on the 23rd of February. Parent helpers, please be in school for 9:30am so that I can run through all the necessary health and safety instructions. We are expected at the library for 10am and will be able to stay there for at least 30 mins. We will be returning to school just in enough time to get ready for lunch. Thanks again for all of your support with this visit!
