Half term homework
Hello all, the children came home on Thursday with a maths booklet, their new reading journal entry sheet and some comprehension activities to help keep those brains ticking over as we continue to prepare for our SATs assessments in May. The homework is due back into school on Wednesday 26th February. I also sent home the new spelling pack for our spelling words for next half term, along with some words for the school spelling bee. I have also set a Spelling Shed assignment to help the children practise these statutory words. There is some further information about the school spelling bee below. As ever, please do contact us if you have any questions. Have a wonderful half term break!
Spelling Bee:
Next half-term, we will be hosting a Spelling Bee across school. This is a fun competition where children will learn words from the National Curriculum to spell. Children will be tested on these each week and will move through the rounds. We will host the final round in an assembly!
All children will be recognised for taking part, and we want to emphasise that this is a fun way for children to learn the important words that they will use frequently every day in Year 6. We have already learnt quite a few of these words as part of our weekly spellings in Year 6, and some of them will have been covered in Year 5, so this will be a good way to revisit some of these words.
I have attached the list of words to this blog (Spelling Bee Words). We won't be testing children on these words until the second week back after half-term, so there is plenty of time to get practising! I have also attached a list of fun ways to practice and learn these spellings at home! The key is to practice little and often to ensure they are remembered. Please drop me an email after half-term if you have any questions about this.
