MOVING MECHANISMS
Wow! What a fabulous summer 1 we have had in Year One. Mrs Jones and I have been really proud of how hard the children have worked to show their best and they have been shining on a daily basis.
The children have really enjoyed our DT work on moving mechanisms. We have explored sliders and levers and got really good at using lots of technical terms! Last week we planned our ideas (thinking carefully about the design criteria) and this week we have enjoyed a chance to make. It was a great opportunity to make a link to our previous art work on cityscapes and our topic of London. Our design challenge was to create a London picture with moving mechanisms. I think you will agree from the photos that all the children did a fantastic job! They have brought home their makes so they will be able to explain how each part works and might be able to have a go at something similar during the holiday.
Next term we have a couple of exciting DT units (tie dye and food) which we will kindly be asking for help with. I will send some dates and details nearer the time.
This term we have all really loved using Scratch to explore the world of programming. There is a free download of the app Scratch Junior which I would recommend for any long car journeys you may have over the next week. I think you will be very impressed with what the children are able to do!
Enjoy a good rest over the holiday and we are looking forward to a fun filled end to the summer term when we return.
